Regarding last night, please reference the "Additional Rules For the
Charles Bukowski Memorial Drinking Club."
(groups.yahoo.com/group/sfb...ssage/290)

Since I wasn't there to see the brown bags, the guy with an orange
Giants hat put his face under the beer tap and open it up, people
pilfering beer from the back room, 20+ CBMDC attendees taking the
place over and standing on bar stools, Karen's smooth speech to "Mr.
Belding," the cute Beagle and our prompt and fast ejection with the
quickest exit from a bar that I have ever seen, would someone care
to recap what happened lat night?

Because I was safe and sound at home, watching the television and
eating Twinkies wondering what you guys were doing.

Whoever WAS there last night, do you think they are banned for
life? And what happened to Nikki, did she go to jail? Did the dog
lady call the cops?

Gee, you guys sure missed some great jokes on Will and Grace last
night! That Will - what a cut-up!

Next meeting is somewhere in the Inner Sunset. I am thinking Mucky
Duck, but I'll go check it out first. I've been there to watch
bball games but I can't remember if they can accomodate all of us.
After that we're gonna have to bring it back to my hood, just once.
These cab rides get expensive! I'll find a fucked up shitty bar in
Chinatown we can go to.

Tony,

Like you, I wasn't there. I was at home alphabetizing
my books again. But someone named Muffy called me at
4 am claiming that her party to celebrate her
graduation from opthamology school was ruined by a
woman she met in the line for the bathroom at
Blondies. What? I said, still half-asleep.

Then she went on to blather about being led into a
"secret bar" in the back of Blondies, ostensibly used
as a smoking room by others, but there was a group
there freely helping themselves to the taps! I thought
to myself, "Who would put free alcohol in a private
smoking room and not expect large groups of nefarious
poetry readers to take advantage of that?"

Supposedly there was a large bucket of drink strainers
that were being passed out as souveniers. She claimed
to have one in her hand when cornered by the Beagle
lady, who I guess was the enraged owner or something.
This is how she ended up in jail. I guess the group
she was reading Bukowski poetry with suddenly vanished
into thin air. The Beagle woman came into the room
clutching her dog (which the guy with the orange hat
kept asking her if he could pet) and said loudly "WHO
THE HELL IS DRINKING OUT OF MY TAPS?" and raced out of
the room, still clutching her pooch. As if anyone was
going to answer that question.

Apparently, the bouncer kept checking on the group,
but failed to notice obvious details like large pints
of beer under the taps and various people BEHIND the
bar when he came by. One person started to tell him a
boring story about beer coming out of her nostrils and
he simply went away.

Muffy said she and her sorority sisters were the only
ones left in the room when the angry owner came back
with the bouncer in tow. She was still trying her
hardest to concentrate on the words of the poem she
had been asked to read.

By this time, of course, I had wearied of Muffy's
story and wondered why she had called me in the first
place. She said something about bail and could I get
her a lawyer, but I was tired, so I hung up and went
back to sleep.

Can anyone confirm this wild tale?

I cannot confirm or deny anything you just wrote.

However, theoretically:

I am really fuzzy as to what happened during our exit. As soon as
the owner started freaking out she left the back room and, I am
assuming, went to go talk to the bouncer. But in my hasty exit, I
didn't see either of them. Did the ophthalmology girls get
captured? And what happened to Nikki? And there were other dudes
in there that I never saw again. I hope we all made it out. But I
guess that's why we make friends with people in bathrooms – we have
someone to take the fall.

And where exactly did those ophthalmology girls come from? Are they
part of the group or were they recruited? They weren't exactly
dressed for the part, but whatever.

Club:

I have never made it out with you. And now, I weep. I weep
like the native american with the feather in his hair on
that TV ad, where he stares into this pile of trash.

I guess I though it was just a fly-by-night deal, two,
three events then it evaporates. I was wrong.

I am so proud of this club. To mock and belittle Blondies
in such a fashion is truelly beautiful.

Please, count me in next time. Do you think the group is
ready to get kicked out of the Redwood room at the Clift
hotel?

With endearing and true Love,
Adam

The funniest thing is that the club didn't get kicked
out as much as the club skillfully beat its ass out of
there before the club got kicked out. The best part of
the evening was the tension, the club knew it was
coming and somehow the club was not drunk enough to
take the fall. I bet the club could do this at many
fine establishments. It seems to have a knack for it,
as well as pissing off Asian women.
Of course, I wasn't there so I have no idea what
happened. The club shall remain anonymous....

Tony,

That was my fault. I met them in line and I sensed
our immending doom, so I figured we only had a little
time left to do a weird experiment of recruiting
sorority girls. Hey, they stood on chairs and read.
Infiltrate the beast from within and destroy! Now
they can never return to their barbie doll lives.

I really don't know what happened to everyone else. I
did my best to try and tell each and every person to
get the fuck out and meet across the street. I think
we all made it except for Nikki.

Nikki?

in checking my cell phone this morning, it appears Nikki tried to contact us around 11:30 last night....I feel bad I missed it and am just hoping that wasn't her one phone call from the mission police station!

Nikki??

What's her email? Maybe someone should drop her a line...

I mean I'm curious as to what happened after we left. What happened
to her? Did the bouncer get fired? If I was running a business I'd
fire him. He wasn't being nice or anything. He was just really dumb!

"Here you guys go ahead and kick it in the auxiliary
bar in the back with no supervision. the taps are
open but I know you drunk assholes won't drink from
them or lie down on the bar like Homer Simpson and
open the tap into your mouth. And even though there's
20 of you, keep it down will ya? and don't stand on
the chairs and on top of the bars to shout out gritty
poetry. Did I mention no smoking?"

No he said we could smoke. Actually, when I stumbled
upon the room and pried open the door, I'm sure I
heard angelic music coming from somewhere on high.

The bouncer came over and I said still in disbelief,
"Can we hang out in here? it's nice and dark". Brian
was still trying to find the lights and I believe the
bouncer found them for him.

"Here ya go, let me get those on for you guys" Oh ok.
Gee whiz, Mr. Bouncer, thanks. "You guys can smoke
in here" he said as he walked away.

Then he just left us there. That's when Tony and I
noticed the taps.....

Well, I thought Nikki made it to Delirium with us, but maybe I was mistaken. I
thought the best way to avoid capture on the way out was ditch you guys, visit
the bathroom then leave 5 mins later, carrying rather than wearing the hat. It
worked beautifully. The owner was berating the bouncer in the doorway as I
left, and so I said "excuse me", she stepped aside and I tasted the sweet air of
freedom.

I saw the empty street, worried that I'd lost the lot of you then thought "this
needs some psychology. what would I do if I was CBMDC?". So I just
wandered across to the bar directly opposite Blondies (they'll never think of
looking for us there!), and there you all were. I'm pretty sure I was last man
out, and I didn't see Nikki as I left, so hopefully she's not banged up.

And what's up with Delirium. I've been to a lot of pretentious bars in London,
and that was way up there. I'm still sad they didn't play Come on Eileen. My
throat was sore by the time I got home from requesting (bellowing) it so much.

Another wonderful evening. My grandkids'll never believe these stories.

Maybe Nikki is still at Blondie's, furiously scrubbing glasses and
the floor, Cinderella style, in an attempt to work off the keg of
beer we helped ourselves to (anyone have any idea how much beer we
guzzled gratis?). Maybe Nikki was convinced, in her drunken state,
that a sorority is just what she needs right now- saved from the
clutches of the evil, corrosive CBMDC- smuggled away in the night to
the safety of the Sorority House! Maybe Nikki ran out the back door
instead of the front and got locked out there, with the dog shit and
whatever else lurks behind Blondie's....

Cherished memory of the night- Karen, sucking on the tap as if it was
her mother's breast. Keep it coming!!!

And the chick at Casanova who told Tony that he'd have to give his
martini strainer back. My housemates were overjoyed when I brought
something other than glassware home last night! They were not so
overjoyed that I decided to make mac-n-cheese in the middle of the
night, loudly drunk.

And why the fuck did the owner take her Beagle out back to let it
crap- why not just take it out front, where the street cleaners will
whisk away that doggie poo unless a stiletto heel gets to it first?

The only thing that surprises me is that patrons haven't stolen a
pint or twenty before, left in a dark "smoking room" with wet taps.
What did they expect? Maybe all of the regulars aren't so shrewd and
cunning as to check the taps- "theres no handle on it...must not be
working..."

Chelsea

Oh- and Tony, I have your hat. :)

Yeah, what was up with that Casanova chick? I was
about to go North Korea on her ass. The funniest
thing is she said to me, "You have to give that
strainer back." I said, "No it's mine, I brought it
from home."

"Oh, ok."

Yeah, I routinely bring martini strainers from home to
bars... ya know, just in case.

Ok Chelsea, it took me a week, but I'm finally over
the fact that you fed me 2 buck Chuck out of a Nalgene
bottle that WAS BLESSED BY A CATHOLIC PRIEST!!! I
DRANK THE BLOOD OF JESUS! Oh yeah, as much as I like
your new Daisy Dukes, I sure was accustomed to seeing
you in your air conditioned pants!
